Conference on the Convergence of Textbooks and Technology in Higher Education Premieres in Tampa, Sponsored by the National Association of College Stores

Oberlin, OH (April 2, 2002) - The Campus Computer Resellers Alliance (CCRA) Conference and Expo and ConTEXT®, the NACS Conference on Textbooks and Technology, co-locate for the largest and most comprehensive conference and trade show devoted to textbooks/course materials and technology products sold through higher education retailers. Sponsored by the National Association of College Store (NACS), hundreds of college store buyers representing over 200 schools will attend the event at the Tampa Convention Center on April 18-20.

Beginning in 2002, CCRA and ConTEXT® attendees will benefit from attending a convention for both technology and textbook professionals. Formerly managed as separate conventions, the joint event will focus on the convergence of textbooks and technology within the higher education market. Keith McCann, director of CCRA and industry resources, comments on the importance of merging the convention.

“The number one issue facing campus stores today is the future delivery of

intellectual property to the students, “ McCann said. “By bringing together textbook and technology providers, the CCRA/ConTEXT® event explores this issue and seeks workable solutions.”

CCRA/ConTEXT® 2002 will include 3 days of intense retail education, a trade show featuring products geared towards technology and course material professionals, and industry experts speaking on technology, leadership, and change in the higher education retailing industry.

The event will feature an array of educational offerings on topics including copyright compliance, e-content, digital content, wireless networking and marketing. The conference will feature product demonstrations and services from companies including Apple, Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard, XanEdu, McGraw Hill, NACSCORP, and Thomson Learning.

The more than $10 billion dollar collegiate retailing industry is comprised of a variety of product categories including textbooks, technology products, apparel, and giftware. Within a year, college stores in the U.S. and Canada sell nearly $8 billion dollars in course materials and technology products collectively.
